About Cairo Grill Logo Animation

My work on the animations of the Cairo Grille logo was done as part of my intern study position with Steve Beck, of the University of California, Berkeley, during my semester at The Temple University Berkeley Summer Workshop in Media and Film Studies, led by Prof. Peter d’Agostino of Temple University.

The Logo Animations were designed and directed by Steve Beck ( www.stevebeck.tv ) based on an original logo design for The Cairo Grille restaurant which recently opened in Gainesville, Florida. ( www.cairogrille.com ) The Cairo Grille specializes in Middle Eastern and Egyptian cuisine food; all prepared fresh daily from local organic food suppliers, many of the food ingredients are grown by local farmers.

I worked as the animation assistant designer and chief animator. My role in the project was to apply my skills in motion graphics to assist the motion designs and implement the motion designs, working in collaboration with director Steve Beck. I used various software tools such as After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro to generate some 50 variations on the logo animation. Steve Beck provided me with sketches, flowcharts, and diagrams for the basic designs of the animations. We collaborated at weekly meetings in design sessions to refine the animations.

The logo animations were all generated at High Definition video format 1920 x 1080 p30, and are showing on a large flat screen HDTV at The Cairo Grille, along with other video designs by Steve Beck from his NOOR (Light) animations of Middle Eastern geometric patterns and Arabic Calligraphy.

The original 2D non-animated color logo was designed by graphic artist Anna Janosik of Riverhills Design in Tampa, Florida ( www.riverhillsdesign.com )
